Abstract

Adenocarcinoma, not otherwise specified (NOS), is a salivary gland carcinoma that shows glandular or ductal differentiation but lacks the prominent histomorphologic features that characterize other, more specific types of carcinoma. We report a rare case of adenocarcinoma, NOS, arising in the submandibular gland.<BR>A 32-year-old woman was referred to the Department of Dentistry and Oral Surgery, Prefectural Central Hospital because of a tumor in the left submandibular gland. Fine needle aspiration biopsy was performed, and the histopathological diagnosis was Warthin's tumor. The tumor was resected with the mandibular gland. The resected tumor was diagnosed as adenocarcinoma, NOS, and a supra-omohyoid neck dissection was performed. There has been no recurrence or metastasis of the tumor as of 2 years after presentation to our department.
