Abstract

We experienced a case of colonic duplication in an adult.
A 37-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because of abdominal pain. Abdominal X-ray film, CT scan, and barium enema study revealed localized and tubular duplication of the sigmoid colon. At surgery, we maneuvered a duplication tract from the mesocolon, and resected it without the normal colon using linear stapler.
Latest 24 reports of colonic duplication in Japan during 15 years show that all tubular type duplications had communication with the true lumen. Thus we can diagnose it preoperatively by keeping such type of colonic duplication in mind. And our case demonstrated that the tubular and localized colonic duplication could be resected easily with linear stapler. This type of duplication may be resected under laparoscopic surgery in the future.
