Abstract

A male Japanese domestic cat of unknown age was examined because of anorexia and depression. The cat had pale mucous membranes and enlargement of spleen and liver. The peripheral blood was markedly anemic with remarkable increase of nucleated erythrocytes at various stages of maturation. The cat died 5 days after presentation, and increased number of erythroblasts at different stages of maturation were seen in the bone marrow. The case was diagnosed as myelodysplstic syndrome (MDS-Er).
