Abstract
We have developed a novel universal motion picture simulator whose accuracy of reproducing all gray level response characteristics is higher than that of any previous simulators. The simulator mainly consists of a variable refresh rate CRT monitor of 50 to 540 Hz and a large frame memory that is able to change refresh rate flexibly. In addition, we used a gray level response measuring system to obtain accurate gray level response of LCDs. Using this simulator with those response data, it was possible to reproduce all gray level response characteristics and image degradations in actual LCDs completely.
