Abstract

We herein report a case of lymphocutaneous sporotrichosis in a 74-year old woman who had nodular ulcerated lesions on the right foot and leg. The lesions healed with the oral administration of 0.3 g potassium iodide per day. Twenty-one sporotrichosis cases in the Nagasaki area from January, 1993 to December, 2001 were reviewed. The incidence was greater among patients over 50 years of age than in those younger. Both males and females were equally affected. There was no seasonal difference in onset of the lesions. Fixed type were (16 cases) much more frequent than the lymphocutaneous type (5 cases). The lesions were frequently seen on the face (7 cases, 33.3%) and upper limbs (12 cases, 57.1%). Nine patients (52.9%) were farmers, while four patients (19%) had an obvious history of antecedent injury.
