Abstract
From the viewpoint of medical economy, we examined some of the problems in treating burn patients. We analyzed 26 severely burned patients, who were admitted to our hospital in the period from 1992 to 1994. The total cost required to treat them amounted to about 205,000,000 yen and 6,810,000 yen (3.3%) was not covered by medical insurance. Most of this uncovered cost was for fresh frozen plasma and albumin for intravenous infusion. A positive correlation was observed between each patient’s burn index and his medical charge per day. On the other hand, an increase in the burn index also led to an increased mortality.
