抄録

A retrospective investigation was performed on 28 patients with parotid gland cancers treated between 1998 and 2006. We examined adaptation and a range of prophylactic neck dissection. It was useful to perform FNAB (fine-needle aspiration biopsy) and pathological examinations by frozen section to decide whether prophylactic neck dissection should have been carried out. Prophylactic neck dissection was suitable for T4a or cases in which high malignancy cancer was suspected by FNAB or pathological results of frozen section. We concluded that level II and III, regardless of a pathological malignancy, were the appropriate domain for prophylactic neck dissection. Furthermore, prophylactic neck dissection in level II, III and V should have been carried out in the cases where the T classification was more than T3.
