Purpose: To survey the problems of schoolchild glasses through questionnaire filled out by public elementary school nurses in Osaka prefecture.<br>Methods: We analyzed the reply from school nurses to the questionnaire about the schoolchild glasses, which we sent to 514 public elementary schools in Osaka prefecture between January 2006 and February 2006. The contents of the questionnaire are as follows; the name of the disease, the capability of understanding how to use glasses, the grasp of actual situation, the advices to the children, and the counseling with the parents.<br>Results: We finally received reply form the 45.3% of school nurses. The analyses showed that they are well aware of the name of the disease and how to use glasses, but they grasp the actual situation in only 53% of the cases. They counseled the children and the parents in 20% of the cases, regarding various topics.<br>Conclusion: School nurses should surely understand the significance of the glasses that have an influence on school work and physical training for children, and are hoped to enlighten ophthalmologists and orthoptists on these problems of schoolchild glasses.
