Abstract
Pointing technique is one of classical methods of coping for carving sculpture. That is mechanical coping technique, its origin in ancient Greek, that applies to marble carving of complicated human figure. However, sculpture won't be reduced to mere outer form. In this aspect, emergence of form appears as interlacement of shape and quality. Using this application, the sculptor's creativity can not only copy form but original piece. Therefore, showing this technique to be a copying method will make the structure of art clear. It will be the key of solution, about the affaire of art such as original and copy. Then, comparison with “pointing technique” and “direct carving”, which dose not apply any mechanical method, and consideration of sense of line that stands between recognition and form are useful. The pointing technique can be explained by fixing nature of geometry. The originality can be explained the sense of line in direct carving. End of this paper, Rodin would be picked up, as example of creativity in pointing technique.
