Abstract
The catalytic insertion of a-diazo compounds into C-H or X-H (X = heteroatom) bonds is a very powerful organic transformation, due to the potential in forming highly versatile building blocks. Remarkable advances have been made in the methodology for catalytic asymmetric diazo insertion into C-H bond, but only limited success has been achieved for asymmetric insertions into X-H bonds. Recently, high levels of enantiocontrol in the asymmetric X-H insertions have been achieved by the device of well-defined chiral Cu complexes. In this short review, several recent examples of catalytic asymmetric N-H and 0-H insertions are introduced.
