Abstract

From the Middle Pleistocene Kiyokawa Formation in Yoshinoda, Chiba Prefecture, a plant macrofossil assemblage including 11 taxa was found with vertebrate fossils. Plant macrofossils were impressions and included Lagerstroemia sp., Picea cf. polita, Fagus crenata, and Wisteria floribunda. Fossil Lagerstroemia sp. was identified as a fossil species related closely to Lagerstroemia subcostata var. fauriei. The palaeoclimate in the place where sedimentation of fossils took place was considered to have been about 102°C · month : the temperature at the northern limit of Lagerstroemia subcostata.
