Abstract
In urban areas, rat-run always happens to avoid traffic congestion, and this causes bad deterioration of living environment for inhabitants living by the roadside. For this, there are sweeping measures, for example, road network improvement, while way of changing drivers consciousness is also considered for the road improvement. Considering drivers consciousness, this study examined on what kinds of road spaces, rat-run was hard to happen. It became clear that the rat-run consciousness was related with the road space characteristics. What is more, the elements of the road space also have influences on the drivers recognition from the questionnaires in Okayama. This result suggested that road space improvement could be able to control the rat-run consciousness of drivers, and it was also showed there was possibility to restrain the rat-run phenomenon by the road improvement.
