Abstract

Radio over Fiber systems, the carrier frequency of which is beyond microwave band, severely suffer from a fading due to fiber dispersion. In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate the Radio over Fiber transmission of 111.689Mbps BPSK signal with carrier frequency of 10.804GHz, observe the change in an optical waveform along with the transmission, and measure the bit error rate varying the optical transmission power. The transmission over 25km fiber shows a lager power penalty than does the 10km fiber transmission, though by increasing the incident power, we find the decrease in the power penalty because of a parametric gain in the transmission fiber. By calculating modulation indexes from the observed waveforms after transmission, we show that the degradation in the modulation index coincides with the power penalty.
