Abstract

Recurrent respiratory papillomatosis is a chronic disease of the upper respiratory airway, and the larynx is the most frequently affected organ. There have been many efforts to control this disease with less invasive treatment modalities such as CO2 laser and cidofovir. Cidifovir is an anti-viral agent that has been expected to eradicate the human papilloma virus. However, this agent is not yet commercially available in Japan. Here we report a case of recurrent laryngeal papillomatosis treated with cidofovir. The patient received local injection of cidofovir three times over a span of four weeks. The disease has been controlled and there have been no adverse effects for 15 months.
