Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to describe schizophrenic patients' acceptance of medication after receiving psychoeducation from various professionals.<br> Method: The research subjects were 8 schizophrenic patients (5 females, 3 males) admitted to the acute units of the Departments of Psychiatry at private psychiatric hospitals in the Hokuriku and Kinki regions. Semi-structured interviews were used during the data collection, and the 'constant comparison' of the Grounded Theory Approach was used for data analysis.<br> Results: Schizophrenic patients' "acceptance of medication" was explained through "opposing categories," and assessed in relation to "categories of illness acceptance" and "categories of future outlook."<br> Conclusion: It is necessary to develop a results-based psychoeducation program in order to enhance clinical outcomes.
