Microstrabismus occurs both in a primary and secondary form, nevertheless either type of microtropic amblyopia must be treated.
In the treatment of microtropic amblyopia, we sometime encounter difficult questions such as: When is the proper time to diagnose it?,
How long shoud we continue the occulsion treatment?, and What is the most prudent follow up treatment for microtopic amblyopia patients?
I investigated fourteen charts of microtropic amblyopia patients who had been treated with prescription glasses and sound eye occulsion in order to attempt to answer these questions.
The results are as follows: It is possible to diagnose microtropic amblyopia in children at around the age of seven. It is preferable to continue sound eye occulsion treatment until age eleven. The most careful attention must be paid to patients with varying AC/A ratios.
I advocate to include refractive examinations into the infant Health Examinations which are conducted at age two in order to prevent amblyopia occuring later in the child's life.
