LALT (Laser Altimeter), operated by NAOJ(National Astronomical Observatory of Japan), was a laser ranging sensor on KAGUYA (SELENE:SELenological and ENgineering Explorer) launched by JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency). GSI (Geospatial Information Authority of Japan) produced the lunar topographic map using LALT data cooperating with JAXA and NAOJ.
The map adopted stereographic projection, by which circular craters are also circle on map. The map was designed with maging "pale lunar floating in the dark space." These cartographic representations got good repute in some conferences. A questionnaire survey on junior high schools was executed to confirm the repute quantitatively.
The cartographic representations got good repute quantitatively from teachers, and qualitative from students. Concerning the result and the previous response, the cartographic representations are accepted generally. But the conformality of the stereographic projection was not enough understood. The map improved interests and understandings on lunar, but not enough improved understandings on cartography.
