Abstract

This paper describes a method to extract quantitative growth information of plants from time-series images recorded by a fixed camera for about two weeks. The growth information can be visualized as a growth curve in a still image by spatio-temporal projection. To obtain the quantitative growth information from the still image, the growth curve is extracted with dynamic programming. The extraction process is semi-automatic. The user just needs to specify two end points roughly on the spatio-temporal projected image and the system extract the growth curve automatically. If it is out of alignment, the user can correct it by specifying additional points on the growth curve or by eliminating noises on the time-series images and re-projecting. For the time-series images of two seedlings in a test tube, the growth information of both seeds can be extracted by using horizontal position information.
