Abstract

Recently, owing to the high demand of international telephone calls and internet traffic, some experimental results for more than 100 Tbit/s high speed and large capacity and dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM)/optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (Optical OFDM) optical amplifier transmission systems have been demonstrated; through the these systems, one billion people can use the internet and international telephone. Therefore, the degradation factors of the transmission characteristics of the DWDM/optical OFDM optical amplifier systems should be determined. Experimental and theoretical studies are ongoing to investigate the degradation factors of the transmission characteristics of the DWDM optical amplifier systems and to standardize the transmission systems internationally. The research on evaluating measurement technologies and their international standardization is presented. In this paper, the optical-fiber-related measurement technologies for chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion and nonlinear constant, and their international standardization are mainly introduced.
