Abstract

<p>Most of current gas sensors are used for preventing gas explosions and poisoning accidents caused by combustible or toxic gas leaks. Over the last few years, there have been significant improvements in the power-saving technology of gas sensors, including the development of new models of battery-operated gas alarms that last up to 5 years. New types of sensor have also been developed to address the newly emerging odor detection market. Thus, various materials have been tested in order to achieve characteristics that meet various application requirements. Furthermore, sensors with ultrahigh sensitivity to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have been developed, and portable analyzers using gas chromatography have been commercialized.</p>
