Abstract

Cyclo(dipeptide)-based organogelators were synthesized from cyclo(L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanyl) and poly(dimethysiloxane). The prepared gelators showed gelation ability towards to a variety of solvents including hydrocarbon solvents, edible oils, and silicone oils. Temperature-dependence FT-IR spectra were measured to study driving forces. The peak at 1671 cm−1 is assigned to the carbonyl stretching vibration for hydrogen bonding, decreased with increasing temperature. FT-IR spectra indicated the formation of hydrogen-bonding as a driving force. Electron microscopic images of xerogel showed wide three-dimensional fiber networks having 200-500 nm width. Sample prepared from gelator showed not only a thermal phase transition but also an isothermal sol-gel phase transition; this combination is called thixotropic behavior.<br>
