Abstract

This research is focused on clearly verifying the structure and management of community-based rural tourism with the village of Langdeshang in Guizhou Province, which is said to be facing poverty issues serious even by Chinese standards, as a case study. For this research, the authors visited Langdeshang and carried out an inquiry of the actual conditions there.
From the results of this inquiry, the following became apparent. First, one of the main characteristics is that organization of rural tourism is centered on the village committee and that the organizational activities provide a wide variety of employment opportunities to all the inhabitants. Also, the organization's income is paid out to the participants based on the level of labor while it is being used for the maintenance of the local environment. Furthermore, instruction in arts and crafts, management of farm stays, and other development of human resources are being carried out.
From the above it is notable that in the case of Langdeshang, rural tourism has been developed centered upon the village committee, involving the whole community, using the local, natural resources and that it is an established social system where the profits gained from this are used as the basis for village development.
