<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title> <jats:p>A discrete Gd3+ and radical complex was prepared and characterized to be [Gd(hfac)3(HNN)3] by means of X-ray crystallographic analysis, where Hhfac stands for 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoropentane-2,4-dione and HNN for 4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazolin-1-oxyl 3-oxide. A magnetic study revealed the presence of ferromagnetic exchange coupling with 2J/kB = 3.86(6) K, ascribable to the Gd–HNN interaction.</jats:p>
