Abstract
Purpose: To evaluate the clinical usefulness of the HRK7000A (Huvits, Gyeonggi, Korea), we compared the refraction test results obtained by the HRK7000A using Wavefront technology and the RK5 autorefractor keratometer (Canon, Tokyo, Japan) using image formation.
Subjects and Methods: Subjects were 375 eyes of 375 randomly-selected outpatients (mean age, 62.3 ± 13.6 years; range, 24-90 years). All the subjects underwent refraction tests using the two instruments. Patient's refractions including the spherical and cylindrical power were obtained objectively using both instruments and subjectively using the trial lens set. The refraction results were compared among the three methods.
Results: Of the 375 eyes, refractions were measurable in 357 eyes (95.2%) using the HRK7000A and the RK5. The respective averages of the spherical power by the HRK7000A, the RK5 and the subjective refraction test in the 357 eyes were -0.45 ± 2.97 diopter (D), -0.43 ± 2.94 D and -0.45 ± 2.82 D. No significant differences in the average spherical power were observed among these three methods (P = 0.17). The respective averages of the cylindrical power by the HRK7000A, the RK5 and the subjective refraction test were -1.30 ± 1.02 D, -1.32 ± 0.98 D and -1.15 ± 0.93 D. A significant difference (P < 0.001) in the average cylindrical power was seen among the three groups. Although the measurements by the HRK7000A and the RK5 did not significantly differ (P = 0.21), the degrees of astigmatism by the HRK7000A and the RK5 significantly differed (P < 0.001) from the cylindrical power by the subjective refraction test. The degrees of astigmatism by the HRK7000A and the RK5 were significantly higher than the cylindrical power by the subjective refraction test (P < 0.001).
Conclusion: Clinically, the HRK7000A performs as effectively as the RK5.
