Abstract
DOTA(1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid) forms thermodynamically stable and kinetically inert complexes with various lanthanide cations, and its gadolinium complex is widely employed as an MR (magnetic resonance) imaging agent. Although various lanthanide complexes have recently been developed as MR imaging contrast agents, this short review focuses on the chemical functionalizations of the DOTA-lanthanide complexes in the developments of advanced MR imaging applications.
