The effects of <I>Lactobacillus johnsonii</I> La1 (LC1) on <I>Helicobacter pylori</I> colonization in the stomach were investigated. <I>H. pylori</I> colonization and gastritis in LC1-inoculated Mongolian gerbils were significantly less intense than those in the control animals. LC1 culture supernatant (>10-kDa fraction) inhibited <I>H. pylori</I> motility and induced bacterial aggregation in human gastric epithelial cells, suggesting the potential of clinical use of LC1 product.
