Abstract
For an anesthesiologist to single-handedly conduct postoperative pain management safely is indeed challenging. Although team management facilitates a good outcome, it requires the team to strictly follow the same management manual. At Okayama University Hospital, postoperative pain management is conducted in accordance with the Postoperative Pain Service manual, which was created in 1996. Since 2008, when the Perioperative Management Center was established, perioperative management has been conducted by multidisciplinary teams. Since postoperative pain evaluations cannot be performed adequately by busy anesthesiologists alone, employing a perioperative management team will not only reduce the burden on anesthesiologists but also upgrade the quality of postoperative analgesia.
