抄録

Concern for the hazards of carbon nanotubes, CNTs has been growing because of its fibrous shape like asbestos. Characterization for morphology of CNTs is important for the risk assessment of CNTs.ive kinds of CNTs (two SWCNTs and three MWCNTs) dispersed in water by ultrasonic methods are characterized. Geometrical properties of CNTs are measured by image analysis from their TEM and/or SEM images. Shape descriptor for flexibility of CNTs defined from the ratio of CNT fiber length and distance between the fiber ends has been proposed. The values of the descriptor determined for CNTs are compared.<br>The flexibility of CNT fiber and its difference among the CNTs can be represented by the proposed shape descriptor. The flexibility of CNTs (both SWCNTs and MWCNTs) is not influenced by the fiber length. On the other hand, the flexibility of MWCNTs depends on the tube diameter of CNTs.
