Abstract

Chemically modified surface and thin films are frontiers of functionalized materials. To elucidate the functions with respect to the primary structure of the compound, the molecular assemble structure is essential. The MAIRS technique coupled with infrared spectroscopy works powerfully to reveal the molecular orientation at each chemical group, so that the assemble structure would readily be understood. When this analytical concept is extended to the orientation and interactions of dipoles, thin films of metal nano-particles can be a good analyte, which can be pursued by the visible MAIRS technique. In this review, the analytical concept of localized surface plasmon in a metal thin film is described.
