Triarylamine-conjugated Bis(terpyridine)-Iron(II) Complex Wires : Rapid and Long-range Electron-transport Ability

Abstract

Bis(terpyridine)–iron(II) complex wires (the number of the complex units: 1–3) possessing triarylamine at the termini were fabricated on gold electrode. The electron-transfer rate constant between the triarylamine moiety and gold electrode was quantified by means of potential-step chronoamperometry, revealing that (1) triarylamine afforded fast electron transportation (i.e., large zero-distance rate constant <i>k</i><sub>et</sub><sup>0</sup>) and that (2) the distance attenuation factor, β<sup>d</sup>, was independent of the terminal redox site.
