Abstract
“Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama” was inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1995. Conservation of those villages started in 1960's. Residents organized village's community association in Shirakawa-go. Ainokura and Suganuma villages in Gokayama were designated as National Historic Sites in 1970's. Many gassho-style houses were moved to both inside and outside of the area. Some of them have been used for museums, and others for restaurants. It is possible that networking all houses scattered in Japan and using them as information centers of the World Heritage Sites.
