Abstract

In order to make vibrational assignments of the metastable orthorhombic modification of poly (oxymethylene), polarized infrared and Raman spectra in the frequency range covering both molecular and lattice vibrations of the moth-shaped and rod-like single crystals of orthorhombic poly (oxymethylene), and the oriented orthorhombic poly (oxymethylene) samples were measured. On the basis of the polarization data the orientation of the orthorhombic poly (oxymethylene) unit cell was decided. The morphology-dependent frequency shifts of the parallel infrared B_1(10) modes of the oriented orthorhombic poly (oxymethylene) samples and the extended chain samples of orthorhombic poly (oxymethylene) obtained pressure-induced solid-state phase transition from the trigonal poly (oxymethylene) were investigated.
