In this article, relationships between motivation and emotions in motivation to learn studies were reviewed. Then both traditional motivation theories (Dweck, 1986; Rotter, 1966; Weiner, 1986) and the new motivation theories (Deci & Ryan, 1985; Wentzel, 1991) were criticized from the perspective of the meanings of motivation. Finally, future researches on motivation were disucssed from relational theory of emotions (Campos, Campos, & Barret, 1989).
