Abstract

The horse-hair blight fungus on the tea bush which we collected at Kyoto Prefecture was identified as Marasmius equicrinis MULLER. The mycelial strand and fruit body of the fungus were obtained by culturing on the potato extract agar medium. Ranges of temperature for the mycelial growth in culture of the fungus were as follows : Optimum-24∿28℃. Maximum-36°∿40℃. For the mycelial growth in diameter on the potato extract agar medium was more favorable than the malt extract or SAITO's soy agar media, but for the development of aerial hyphae it was not as favorable as the other media. Thermal death point for the mycelium is as follows : 5-10 minutes at 45℃ and within 5 minutes at 50℃ by moist heat, and beyond 10 minutes at 45℃ and within 5 minutes at 50℃ by dry heat. Optimum H-ion concentration for the growth of the fungus was assumed to be pH4.8-5.8,and it was supposed that the growth is inhibited at pH9.2; nevertheless, the growth is possible at pH3.0. To the commonly used concentrations of Bordeaux-mixture, Limesulpher, Organic mercury and Copper-mercury compounds respectively, the mycelium of present fungus showed only a slight resistance.
