抄録

The authorities of grammar did not admit the clear difference between the direct and indirect speech in Japanese language. But the researches after '80 have been looking for the markers of this difference. This paper tries to make clear some points in this speech problem on the basis of the results of recent researches. First, a direct speech does not necessarily convey what the original speaker said literally as it was. And an indirect speech keeps the standpoint of the original speaker in some cases. So, it is important to consider the implication of the 'dualism' of the conversation phases in both speeches. Lastly, we glance at the grammatical context of the introduction of speech expression in the main elementary Japanese language texts and make some comments about it.
