The aim of this paper is to examine the roles played by the junior high school for the social differentiation of the students. We focus upon the career guidance of junior high schools. Observing the career guidances of two high schools, two problems would be explored. (1) Whether does the career guidance function as the round slice selection or not? (2) How is the discretion of the teachers made through the process of the career guidance? In conclusion, I will point out a paradox that the ideology of teachers as educationalists -We should develop fully the individualities of all students-maintains and reinforces the round slice selection.
