抄録

The multi-media society has been extending supported by the rapid growth of the Internet in recent years, involving not any corporate users but users with scarce knowledge of the network given easy connection methods. According to this, the network traffic and problems have so kept increasing significantly. Thus, it has become more important to grasp the characteristics and performance of the network for the adequate network operation and management. In particular, the network control based upon precise traffic measurement will become a key to cope with such on rapidly changing environment. But, traffic measurement products in the market are relatively expensive and therefore are not widely used among low-end users. Considering the above, the anthers propose a traffic measurement system to achieve precise, easy and low cost measurement. This paper first presents design/development concepts of such a system, network analyzing system, Network Traffic Viewer (NTV). It second explains the development of its prototype, and then shows its high measurement accuracy through the comparison of its measurement data and high end commercial prudent measurement date obtained in experiment conducted in the an actual Department of Information and Communication Technology sub-net. Finally future issues are shown based on this result.
