In order to develop a novel blood compatible material, zwitterionic polymer, poly(N-ε-methacrylamide-L-lysine) [poly(ε-LysMA)], was prepared as followed. (i)N-ε-methacrylamide-N-α-acethyl-L-lysine methylester was obtained from N-α-acethyl-L-lysine methylester and methacryloyl chloride. (ii) the monomer was radically polymerized with 2,2'-dimethylazobisisobutyrate in absolute ethanol at 60℃ for 20h. (iii) After deprotecting the resulting polymer with NaOHaq, zwitterionic poly(ε-LysMA) was neutrized, dialyzed with cellulose membrane against water and freeze-dried to give a white powder. The interaction between zwitterionic poly(ε-LysMA) and bovine serum albumin was also examined by fluorescence spectroscopy and using resonant mirror biosensor(LAsys).
