Abstract

Study objective : We examined the effect of goal setting on children's class preparation behavior in a second-grade classroom. Design : We used a multiple baseline design across target behaviors. Setting : The present study was conducted in a regular classroom of a public elementary school. Participants : 31 children (18 boys, 13 girls) in a second grade participated in this study. Intervention : The same classroom goals were set for each child on a Target Behavior Card placed on the child's desk. The target behaviors were : "I'll sit down as soon as the bell rings, " "I'll push my chair under my desk during recess, " and "I won't turn around during class." Measure : We used event recording to measure the frequency of each target behavior. Results : The first 2 target behaviors increased during the intervention period, while the third remained relatively unchanged.
