抄録

A 50-year-old man had intermittent abdominal pain and was admitted to our hospital for ileus. Intussus-ception was suspected, but the diagnosis was not established by any of the examinations. Barium enema, colonoscopy, and CT revealed the cause of his illness to be an appendiceal tumor, and laparotomy was per-formed. At laparotomy, the cecum was loosely adeherent to the retroperitoneum. A diagnosis of mucinous tu-mor of the appendix that had intussuscepted into the cecum was made, and ileocecal resection was carried out. Histopathological examination revealed mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix of low grade malignancy. Mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix is a rare disease, and intussusception by mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix is even rarer. Cases reported in the Japanes literature are reviewed.
