We fabricated a free-standing gel film containing ferroelectric liquid crystal in anisotropic polymer network with photopolymerization-induced phase separation, for a future flexible flat display which will implement attractive features of ease of large-size fabrication, light-weight and anti-shock panel structure. The 3μm-thick gel film fastening transparent substrates was obtained, when dispersing acrylate monomer of more than 20% concentration. It exhibited high-speed electrooptic response of 300μs. The fast response and physical stiffness can be consistent in the gel film, because the low-molecular weight ferroelectric liquid crystal is separated from high polymer molecules which restrict conical switching behavior of the liquid crystal.
