Abstract

The second-harmonic generation (SHG) induced by spontaneous magnetization has been investigated for the magnetic semiconductor (Ga,Mn)As. The magnetization-induced SHG (MSHG) signal with an intensity comparable to that of the SHG signal of α-quartz and the resultant nonlinear Kerr rotation have been observed below the ferromagnetic transition temperature. The magnetization curve was obtained using a large rotation angle. The spectrum of the MSHG signal indicates that the signal is two-photon-resonant with the E1 interband transition and one-photon-resonant with the intra-atomic dd transition of Mn2+.
