We investigate the vibrational structure of electronic spectra for the transition from the nondegenerate A state to E states in Eg⊗eg Jahn–Teller systems with the trigonal field included. By extending the analysis by Longuet-Higgins et al. [Proc. R. Soc. London, Ser. A 244 (1958) 1] to this classically chaotic system, we find that the triple-humped structure is manifest with increasing anharmonicity. Such a structure cannot be derived using the semiclassical Franck–Condon (FC) approximation, and is caused by the chaos-induced breaking of the FC principle.
