Photoproduction of Positive and Negative Pions from Protons in the Energy Range from 710 MeV to 950 MeV

Abstract

The momentum spectra of the photoproduced positive and negative phonsfrom the reaction 7p+xnN have been measured using a tagged photon beamin the energy range from 710 MeV to 950 MeV. A magnetic spectrometer at 40'in the laboratory system is used to detect positive and negative pions. A hodoscopearray which surrounded the liquid hydrogen target was used to identify thedouble pion photoproduction process. From the measured momentum spectra,the cross sections of the reaction, 7'.p-+A-f-n were extracted. The results arewell reproduced by the coherent sum of GIOPE rnodel and ,v-channel resonancecontributions.
