The possibility of the solidification of CaCO3 with saving energy consumption was discussed in the system CaCO3-CaO-SiO2 (88.2:1.8:10.0mass%). Two kinds of bodies-“calcination system” where CaO was supplied from partially calcined CaCO3 at 800°C for 3h and “addition system” where CaO was added-were prepared and hydrothermally processed under the saturated vapor pressure at 150-200°C for 2-10h. In the calcination system, flexural strength of the body cured at 150°C for 10h or at 200°C for 5h showed 9MPa which was three times higher than that in the addition system. The strength was controlled by the formed fibrous or lath-like C-S-H gels and C-S-H gels in the calcination system gave larger volume and more uniform distribution than in the addition system. Some parts of C-S-H gels were formed from CaCO3 and 13% of CaCO3 was observed to react in the calcination system at 150°C for 10h or at 200°C for 5h curing.
