Abstract

(1) Cestode fauna of cave bats in Okinoerabu-jima, Okinawa-honto, Miyako-jima, Ishigaki-jima and Iriomote-jima was investigated and compared with that in the various localities of Japan at Amami-oshima and northward. (2) Only one among twelve specimens of Minioptelus schreibersii collected at Okinoerabu-jima was infected with a small larval tapeworm which could not be identified. On the other hand, sixteen specimens of Rhinolophus cornutus pumilus collected at Okinawa-honto were infected with no tapeworm. (3) In Miyako-jima, no bat was found in the eleven caves investigated. (4) Miniopterus schrebersii blepotis from Ishigaki-jima and Iriomote-jima was infected with Vampirolepis hidaensis which is always encountered in M. schrebersii in the Kinki district and westward. Rhinolophus cornutus perditus from Iriomote-jima was infected with Vampirolepis isensis peculiar to R. cornutus throughout Japan. (5) The result obtained from the present investigation revealed that, from the stand-point of bat's cestode fauna, the bats living in the Yaeyama Islands have certain connections with those living at Amami-oshima and northward.
