Abstract

Various flow-induced vibrations are caused around a bluff body by the separation flow of its surface or the vortex generated behind the body. In this study, we focused on in-line oscillation for which the direction of the oscillation corresponds to the main flow. And we used circular cylinders with a finite span length which were supported elastically in two degrees of freedom (in-line and transverse direction) in a water tunnel. Also, C_n was changed by an additional damping system. As a result, in the case of aspect ratio=20,it shows the large response amplitude in both the 1^<st> and 2^<nd> excitation region, and their Lissajous figures differ from each other between the 1^<st> peak and the 2^<nd> peak. The response amplitude in the 2^<nd> excitation region is dampened more sensitively with increasing C_n than in the 1^<st> excitation region.
