抄録

This paper will propose a new approach to measure helical curve profile of micro diameter tool cutting edge, especially of end mills. These are commonly used in ultra-fine cutting processing. The approach bases on applied laser diffraction, therefore it can be applied in noncontact-measurement of the changes of tool cutting diameter which relates to the accuracy and the roughness of processing surface directly. In order to realize on-machine measurement by this approach, it is necessary to consider the existence of deflection of tool rotation. Subsequently, the laser diffraction gauge method applicable to measure rotational deflection will be proposed. Finally the validity of the proposal technique was examined experimentally.
