An open-loop active control worked effectively to suppress combustion noise generated by a disk-stabilized premixed flame in a duct in our previous study. Based on the observed facts, pulsating mixture supply is expected to have a possibility in suppressing combustion oscillations as well as to show desirable performance, from a practical point of view, such as high combustion load, augmented heat transfer, reduced pollutant emissions and so on. The effects of forced pulsating mixture supply have been studied, comparing with steady mixture supply, on a small duct combustor having a rearward-facing step. Under the limited conditions, we found that the forced pulsating mixture supply showed the possibility in suppressing the onset of combustion oscillation.
