A simple and rapid method for the preparation of a cell-free extract with the CCAAT-binding activity was established with Aspergillus nidulans as a model fungus. Proteins were extracted with 6 M guanidine hydrochloride directly from mycelia and renatured by dialysis. This method was found applicable to other filamentous fungi such as Aspergillus oryzae and Trichoderma viride.<br>
